Welcome to Miss Wrigley’s R1 Class. On here you can learn all about what is happening in Reception and see all of the exciting things we have been learning!
Teacher: Miss L Wrigley
Teaching Assistant: Miss C Wilkinson
This term our topic is ‘Growth’. We will be looking at a range of non-fiction and fiction books related to Growth, including ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We are going to learn about animal, human and plant growth throughout the topic. We are focusing on life cycles of caterpillars and ducks as we will be observing these grow and develop in our classroom. We will also explore this topic further in our indoor garden centre role play area, our outdoor baby clinic role play area and in continuous provision.
In Phonics we are working on phase 3 sounds. Many of us are recapping the sounds we learnt in phase 3 whilst some of us are still working our way through the phase at a steady pace. We are learning how to read and write words, captions and sentences that contain the sounds that we are learning. We are also ensuring that we include a capital letter, full stop and finger spaces when writing sentences; both in Phonics and in Literacy. Check the homework sheet every week to find out which sounds and tricky words we have covered.
In Literacy we will be looking at a range of fiction and non-fiction texts to help us to learn about Growth. We will be looking at the life cycle of a duck and sequencing this event by putting the pictures in the correct order and writing about each stage in the ducks development. We’re also going to be learning about human growth and plant growth over the term.
In Numeracy we will be covering a range of topics. We will be learning different ways to work out additions and subtractions; including using a number line and counting on so that we can find a strategy that we are confident with. We will also be learning how to count in twos and tens by practicing this regularly and using actions to help us.
In PE we are working on jumping off objects and landing safely and with confidence. We will discuss and learn how to be safe when doing this and why it is important. We will also look at the effects that exercise has on our body.
In EAD we are covering a range of topics; including designing what we want to make, thinking about the resources and tools we may need and adapting our work when necessary.
In UW we will be looking at changes over time through our growth topic. We are also learning how to complete an age appropriate program on the iPad and computer.
